When a friend of mine recently got a 2 GB USB memory card as a surprise gift from google, I started to wonder about the dynamics of businesses sending free gifts to customers and/or clients. It seems that the main benefit to a company is the goodwill and loyalty that it would generate among its clients and customers who receive these products. Another, often ignored benefit is the promotion that the company gets by giving out these Business Promotion products. If you haven’t figured it out yet, these Promotion Items usually have the logo of the company which gives them out, displayed prominently on the product itself. Doing a bit more digging, I found that anyone can follow this strategy and give their top performing employees, distributors, franchisees, clients, affiliates and other stakeholders thus earning both the person’s goodwill as well as managing to get free promotion for the organisation.
