11 Aug 07 IPO Refund Complaints
Since I get lots of queries regarding non receipt of IPO refunds from investors investing in IPO’s, I thought it would be a better idea to write a separate article on this, instead of replying to individual emails/comments. Two of the most common causes of non receipt of IPO refunds are given below.
1) Postal Delay / Loss in transit
2) Incorrect residential address mentioned in the Demat account records with the DP
If there is a postal delay or if the cheque has been lost, damaged or destroyed in transit, investors will have to meet the postmaster and get a non traceable certificate. This process takes about 20-30 days. Once you get the non traceable certificate from your local postoffice, investors will have to fax this along with their IPO application details, IPO acknowledgement and client master form (which is available in the welcome kit when you open a demat account) to the registrar of the IPO along with a letter requesting them to send a new cheque. The entire process takes about 2-3 months.
If there is a delay because of incorrect residential address mentioned in the demat account, then investors need to meet their depository participant, give them proof of address and ask them to update the same in their demat account. After this investors need to get an updated client master form with the updated address and send this to the registrar of the IPO (through fax or courier) along with the IPO application details, IPO acknowledgement and a letter requesting the registrar to send the cheque to the updated residential address. The entire process takes less than 1 month.

Usually the registrar’s act swiftly on complaints received from investors since SEBI can penalise the registrar’s heavily if they don’t protect investors interests. Also the reputation of the registrar is at stake. However, if you feel that the registrar is not responding to your complaints properly, you can lodge an official complain with SEBI. Investors need to take a printout of this form and mail it to SEBI at the following address

Most importantly ensure that your DP records have your 9 digit MICR code. This will enable investors to receive IPO refunds directly in their bank accounts. This way lot of time and effort can be saved. ECS is fast, safe, secure and above all free of cost. So make use of the ECS facility.

in my vishal ipo case registrar made mistake in my surname though i appllied correctly n with my cheque with my printed name ..after complaining i got refund after 2 months after several calls to intime spectrum ..
I asked them for interest but they said it is minor mistake ..

I applied for 8 ipo this year. I got only one. I received ECS payment in 2 remaining I received cheques. All applications were made online. My Bank is Axis Bank and my demat account contains bank details including MICR code. Still Why registrars are sending physical warrants? What is the criteria for ECS Refunds ? My Bank is situated in a small city where RBI centre is not there for ECS service. However, Axis Bank has its entire branches under corebanking and RBI has allotted and MICR Code for my branch. If I present cheques to my bank, they will deduct collection charges since there is no ECS facility in my city. When I apply for an IPO, my money gets blocked for about 21 days. Then I have to wait some more days to get my cheque credited. I have to pay collection charges.Now what prevents registrars from making electronic ECS to those investors who got their MICR code in the demat account? Is it that registrars arbitrarily deciding mode of refund ?

Hear this out and be shocked as how Karvy takes public money for a ride.
1) I apply for the Power Grid IPO and make the payment of Rs 26,000 (twenty six thousand rupees).
2) 1st Nov 2007 : After several several followups (by email, telephone calls, registered letters) I receive the refund cheque with the account holder name wrongly spelt. I could not realise my money.
3) 2nd Nov 2007 : On their advice I send the cheque back to their Hyderabad office. Again several reminders from my end happens.
4) 24th Dec 2007 : I receive the cheque with name corrected; But the validity date as 25-12-2007. And my banker refuses to accept this when I deposited on 24th Dec stating that the validity is over.
5) 1st Jan 2008 : Again I send Karvy Hyderabad the validity-over cheque. Again several reminders from my end happens.
6) 23rd Jan 2008 : I have received a refund cheque with adequate validity time. BUT WITH WRONGLY SPELT ACCOUNT HOLDER NAME
7) Now comes the final shot from Karvy – I am furious. Agonised and call them several times over phone during the last 3 days.
I have now given up my case since I feel cheated; harrassed and insulted by the Karvy employees who answers me so casually.
Never before in life I felt so harassed and insulted.
I am really baffled how can they get away from something like this.

I have not received the refund for Empee Distillaries Ltd. IPO. I had send email regarding this and two three reminders also to “cameo@cameoindia.com”. Can I take up the matter with SEBI directly or is it necessary to send letters to registrars first. Expecting your advice and thanking you.

i am apply for relaince power IPO and my application no. is 52686297 and till date company don’t send my refund amount.customer care says that plz mail and fax your CML and i fax them mail them and also send withcourier but after all that they don’t send my refund.if anywhere i comlaint my problem then tell me otherwise i will file my problem in court.
